DCS World: F/A-18C Hornet module released

Today see’s the launch of another hallmark module for DCS World. Like the A-10C Warthog module the Hornet goes into some serious detail and Eagle Dynamics claim it represents around 40 man years of intense research, technology development, art creation, and ground-breaking coding. It requires the very latest version of DCS World v2.5.2 and looks absolutely stunning and a module with a very steep learning curve but very rewarding experience once mastered. The full write-up for the module can be read below but check out the promo video and screenshots for the Hornet, its on sale now at Eagle Dynamics E-shop for $79.99

Our Hornet is the culmination of more than 40 man years of intense research, technology development, art creation, and ground-breaking coding. The Hornet brings the first, true, multi-role fighter to the skies of DCS World with equally impressive air-to-surface and air-to-air capabilities.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is initially being released as Early Access, with several features to be added during the Early Access period. This includes several sensors, weapons, and sub-systems.

About the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet

The F/A-18C Hornet is twin engine, supersonic fighter that is flown by a single pilot in a “glass cockpit”. It combines extreme maneuverability , a deadly arsenal of weapons, and the ability to operate from an aircraft carrier. Operated by several nations, this multi-role fighter has been instrumental in conflicts from 1986 to today.

The Hornet is equipped with a large suite of sensors that includes a radar, targeting pod, and a helmet mounted sight. In addition to its internal 20mm cannon, the Hornet can be armed with a large assortment of unguided bombs and rockets, laser and GPS-guided bombs, air-to-surface missiles of all sorts, and both radar and infrared-guided air-to-air missiles. This results in amazing gameplay potential with this single aircraft.

The Hornet is also known for its extreme, slow-speed maneuverability in a dogfight. We have gone to great lengths to model the flight aerodynamics and fly-by-wire flight control system of the Hornet to allow you to experience the real feeling of power and extreme capabilities this aircraft has to offer. Although incredibly deadly, the Hornet is also a very easy aircraft to fly.

Being an aircraft carrier capable aircraft, our Hornet also comes with the most detailed aircraft carrier ever created for a PC game. Catapult from the “boat”, strike a large assortment of targets that only DCS World can offer, then “call the ball” and land on the carrier. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet in DCS World provides the most rich and authentic digital combat aviation you will ever experience!

Key Features of DCS: F/A-18C Hornet:

  • Professional Flight Model (PFM) and authentic Flight Control System (FCS). Experience the thrill of flying this supersonic warbird.
  • Includes a new, highly-detailed USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier with fully operational steam catapults, arrestor wires, “meat ball” landing system, TACAN navigation, jet blast deflectors, radar antennas, defense systems, and lights.
  • The most realistic model of the F/A-18C imaginable, down to each bolt and flake of paint, animated controls surfaces, lights, damage model, and landing gear.
  • Detailed simulation of the Hornet’s many sub-systems like engines, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, radios, lighting, emergency, and many, many more. Although features like “auto start” are available, the sense of accomplishment cannot be overstated after learning to operate this state-of-the-art machine.
  • Inertia and GPS navigation systems with moving map display allow you multiple ways to find your target and get you back to “mother”.
  • Dozens of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons and sensors. From simple rockets to high-tech GPS and laser-guided bombs, experience what only Hornet pilots have experienced ‘til now.
  • A highly realistic and exhaustively researched cockpit that is mouse interactive with 6 degrees of freedom. Interact with the cockpit by pressing buttons and moving switches. You will feel like part of the aircraft with our Advanced Systems Modeling (ASM).
  • Authentic Hornet sounds provided with the assistance of Boeing, the Hornet’s manufacturer.
  • New effects have been developed for our Hornet like leading edge extension vapor, over-wing vapor, rain on canopy, and new explosions.
  • Virtual Reality support. Take advantage of the latest VR technologies to immerse yourself in the simulation. Other than the G’s, you will feel like you are there!
  • Multiple liveries for the US Navy, US Marine Corps, Canada, Australia, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, and many more.

DCS World 2.5 open beta released

Today see’s the launch of DCS World 2.5 open beta. This release is the start of the re-unification of sorts of the DCS World series. With the release of DCS World 2 Eagle Dynamics continued to support and update v1.5 for those who could not run v2.5 and that has caused some issues in the past with some modules being released for one version or the other initially. One of the biggest features of v2.5 is the new Caucasus map which takes full advantage of the new features of the engine and has been teased for some time now by Eagle Dynamics. The new version can be downloaded here from Eagle Dynamics web-site. Check out the launch trailer and full release announcement below.

DCS World 2.5 Open Beta Released!

The “release” version will be available shortly after Open Beta testing is complete. The Open Beta is an optional version of DCS World that we use to first test new content and technologies before moving them to our release version.

Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks and ships possible. This free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes a flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter. An additional 25 aircraft are available for purchase.

Eagle Dynamics to ditch Starforce copy protection

Its long overdue but Eagle Dynamics are going to start phasing out the Starforce copy protection on modules and other content for their DCS World series. Starforce has long been a thorn in many gamers side and often used by the die hard Falcon 4.0 fans way back when as a stick to beat Eagle Dynamics ‘Lock-On’ sim. Back then Starforce was a little more invasive in the way it protected content by burrowing deep into Windows inner workings, so much so some considered it no better than a virus. When DCS World was launched some fans were disappointed to see Starforce used again but this version was much more tame and was more of a license check when installing a module. Even though you got 10 activations with each module and you could contact support for more it was a bit of a nuisance to have to remember to go through your folders and deactivate each module if you were re-installing DCS or maybe doing a fresh install of Windows. Starting with the AV-8B Harrier module Eagle Dynamics will be moving to a new keyless system where products will be bound to your account. There is no timeframe for when existing products will move over but it’s a step in the right direction.

IMPORTANT: AV-8B COPY PROTECTION CHANGE!

Dear all,

With the release of the AV-8B today, it is import to know that this will be the first DCS World product that uses our new protection system. Rather than use StarForce keys, we are moving to a “keyless” system which binds your purchase to your www.dcs-world.com username, and NOT a key. You will not need a constant internet connection either. The new system will just “phone home” after a three day period or the next time you log into DCS World.

This new system will also provide benefits for Steam users and Gifting. Once those details are worked out, we look forward to sharing them with you.

We strongly believe that this will make protection of your DCS World products much more simple. At a later point, we hope to apply this same protection system to all of our other modules.

Also, the AV-8B release today is for the Open Beta version of DCS World. Please make sure you use this version and that you update it today.

We must release all new aircraft modules on the Caucasus map first as not everyone may operate one of the DCS 2.1 maps. We don’t believe it fair to force customers to purchase one of these maps to fly their new aircraft. We do though plan to update DCS 2.1 for the AV-8B in the next one to two weeks.

Thanks,
The Eagle Dynamics Team
